Contempt petition against four senior MFL officials

09th March 2013 11:09 AM

Four senior officials of the public-sector undertaking, Madras Fertilizers Limited (MFL) —-Sudhir Mittal-IAS, Sathish Chandra-IAS, secretary and joint secretary respectively of the Union Department of Fertilizers, I Vijayakumar-IRS, CMD of MFL and Paul Prem Kumar, the company’s liaison officer for SC/STs — appeared before the Madras High Court in connection with a contempt petition filed against them, on Friday.
A division bench, comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and M Venugopal, before whom the executives appeared, was hearing a contempt petition filed by the SC/ST Employees Welfare Association of MFL.
M Palanimuthu, the association’s counsel, said it had filed an appeal to restrain MFL from issuing promotion
orders till the completion of recasting the work roster. On February 14, 2012, a division bench of the High Court had ordered an interim stay on issuing promotions at MFL till the completion of the recasting of the roster for direct recruitment and promotions. However, without complying with the interim order, MFL issued promotion orders. Hence, the present petition to punish the officials for not complying with the February 2012 order, Palanimuthu said.
The division bench accepted the affidavits filed by the officials and dispensed with their further appearance in court.
The bench also posted the matter for further hearing after one week
